Group exhibition - ‘Desire’ at Modern Times, September 2022 

“Each piece started as a solid block of clay and was massaged into any direction I felt the need to explore. It was only when I stepped back, I started to see the forms clearly and began carving them into shape. I use this method to give myself the freedom to feel and follow my curiosity. I never know what forms will evolve, though, I’ve come to realise they record my experience as I surrender to life questions, feelings, ideas and the environment. Sometimes a book I’m reading or a past experience presents itself, other times it’s as though something greater than myself takes over the making and I assist till the end. When they are finished I sit with the pieces and see what they have to say.

When I was asked to be a part of this exhibition, I was deep in the heart of the ‘desire dance’. As I navigated my way through love, lust, and loss, I was experiencing a whirlwind of emotions, dreams, and instinctual urges. Like a beautiful yet painful dramatic dance, I felt the urges of desire pushing me to seek pleasure. In a never-ending cycle, I became interested in what was beyond desire and how to escape the hunger for more. I surrendered to the push and pulls of the urges and soon enough the forms taught me how to embrace the dance and, that beyond desire was the practice of letting go.”
